Friends Only

This LJ is Friend's Only

Friending is OPEN.

To be friended, please comment with a few reasons why I should add you. (IE, common interests such as a similar taste in music, that we both enjoy a certain period of archaeology, or that we're both fans of a particular show.)

Please also tell me how you found out about me -- did you find me on via a friend's page search? Through a mutual friend? Did you see me in a community and were curious? Did you find me via a websearch? Or did you find me in a different way altogether? I'm genuinely curious. I want to know how people are finding me. (And I screen all answers, so no one will see your response.)

~A Little About My LJ~

- I am sporadic about posting. Sometimes I'll post regularly. Sometimes a month will go by before I will post again. If you are looking for regularity, this is not the journal for it.

- I rarely comment to other people's LJ's. I'll be upfront about that right away. I just don't have the time. I'm on a dial-up connection, and it takes too long to load my LJ.

- I will however, try to reply to every comment I receive. No promises, just that I will try.

- Please, no flaming or out and out hating on my LJ. Debates are great. But as long as it remains civil and educated, not lowering itself to the level of people capslocking each other and posting nasty .jpegs. That will get you defriended.

Any questions, just post a comment here, and I'll answer it as soon as possible. Please realize that if I am in one of my periodic "I'm avoiding LJ" spurts, it might be a while until I respond.

Hiatus ~

Actually, this is Ru, hijacking Wifey's LJ, because she told me to.
"I need you to make me one of those cute things you do and make a Hiatus thing for me, because my migraines are killing me and I won't be on much."
So here I am.
See?
Ru follows directions....
...sometimes.

This Can Save Your Life

HPV/CERVICAL CANCER VACCINE HAS BEEN APPROVED!!! )

It may be expensive, but it's worth it. Women, please please please inquire at your OB-GYN's office about this vaccine! Especially if you've never had heterosexual intercourse -- HPV is transmitted with incredible ease! For those who have had abnormal pap smears with HPV detection (and if you've had an abnormal, call your doctor and ask if HPV detection was run!), you still have to stick with annual paps, but otherwise. . . In a single generation, we have the chance to almost eliminate the most common STD!

And, on the plus side, once you get the vaccine, you won't have to have pap smears as often -- possibly as few as one every 5 or 10 years. (Pap smears can still detect uterine and ovarian cancer, so you still want to have them done.)

So please, all women/XX-born people on my LJ, serious consider talking to your OB-GYN about this vaccine.

(And, yes, go figure that some conservative group would object to saving the lives of women. *rolls eyes*)

The Only Thing I'm Saying About The "Drama"

Matthew 18:21-22a
21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?"
22 Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

It doesn't matter if you're a Christian or not. I am. I try to live by the teachings of Jesus the Christ; and one of the important lessons is about forgiveness. Forgiving someone does not mean that I've a) been brainwashed, b) become a flunkie, or c) gone back to an abusive relationship. I could go into greater detail about why this particular passage is important to me in this situation, but I think that it's both fairly self evident and personal, and my life is not a drama to be played out on stage for everyone to see. :P

That's it. I'm out of it.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, don't worry about it. <3 If you do, please understand that point. ^.^

Why Marriage?

So, a couple of people replied to my earlier post about potentially getting married at AnimeBoston saying that they thought that the 1913 law (originally meant to prevent biracial marriage, now being used to prevent same-sex marriage) preventing out of state weddings for people from states who don't support their weddings is still in effect and regularly enforced. I wasn't sure -- it seemed like a law that someone would see fit to strike from the books. :P

Anyway, a couple people helpfully suggested that instead of getting married in Mass., or Canada, we should have a commitment ceremony somewhere close by us, if we wanted the acknowledgment of our relationship. I understand what they're saying -- but there are several reasons that I want to have an actual marriage, and to a certain extent they're tied to the reasons I think that same-sex marriage should be legalized period. So, I decided to write it out here, instead of replying to the people individually. I'm very glad for the time they took to do that research for me, and for their suggestions -- I hope that none of them take this as me being angry at them ('cause I'm in ranty mode! XD), but rather that I'm inspired by their comments to discuss this.

Cut For Length )

Anyway, once again, thank you to everyone who commented in the previous post. Thank you especially to those who commented that we could always have a commitment ceremony; please please understand that I’m not upset at you or at your suggestion! Your suggestion caused me to think and lay out my thoughts on the matter. I do plan on following that suggestion! I just wanted to make it clear to people why I also wanted to get a marriage licence. *hugs*

I understand that this is the type of thing to inspire debate. Please keep any debates/arguments/etc polite and thoughtful; no flaming, or I’ll screen the entry. A debate can only last as long as the participants in that debate treat each other civilly; otherwise, it turns into a bloodbath. XD
